The scale and pace of climate change can no longer be ignored. Nor can the scale of action required to tackle it – the transition to a decarbonised economy is complex and not to be underestimated. Infrastructure investment has taken a back seat for too long, but the time to take decisive action is now. By moving away from gas heat networks and embracing emerging technology, public sector organisations can begin to realise their carbon reduction ambitions in a cost-effective way. But where do you start? This session will discuss how public sector organisations can accelerate the journey to net zero in a cost-effective way through a strategic staged framework.

eEnergy Group40% of global carbon emissions come from buildings, of which 70% are from day to day operations and 30% from the original construction. To meet the UK’s net zero target by 2050 and with 80% of the buildings that will exist then already built today, we must prioritise decarbonising both new and existing buildings.
In this session, we’ll discuss the role that IoT-based intelligent systems can play in transforming existing buildings to net zero carbon and how successful application of government funding can help.

Schneider Electric UK&IThe talk will cover the various funding options available Salix Finance provides to public sector bodies. We will discuss how the Low Carbon Skills Fund can help those at the start of their sustainability journey through the creation of Heat Decarbonisation Plans, as well as those more advanced in their planning in the creation of specific designs for future projects. It will then explore how these can be used to develop Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme applications and the benefits this scheme can deliver in funding decarbonisation projects that a public sector body might not be able to finance themselves.

Salix FinanceConventional Wisdom says that practice makes perfect. We make no pretence that we are perfect but after delivering 26 public sector green action plans in six months, the Environmental and Social Impact team at Inspired have had practice. From this, we have gained a lot of experience which anyone faced with delivering a sustainability strategy could benefit from. In this session, Georgina goes through the highs, the lows and the “did they really’s?” to leave you with practical tips that you can take away and use today.

Crown Commercial ServiceAll organisations face a growing challenge to balance their energy priorities. Conflicting but equally important priorities pull on limited resources, time, and infrastructure. The World Energy Council refers to this challenge as the Energy Trilemma. NHS Trusts face critical pressures across all three aspects of the trilemma.
These 3 challenges are a trilemma because they directly oppose one another – fully decarbonised energy is more expensive and less reliable. For an individual NHS Trust estate manager, ensuring safe, reliable power, sourced as competitively as possible, while still making demonstrable progress towards net zero is no small challenge.

PowerstarAt ENTRNCE, we’re on a mission to help local authorities shift to a decarbonised energy system. Our Matcher is a powerful data platform which gives you a clear picture of your region’s clean energy “score” – and how you can move away from fossil fuels for good.
Whether you’re focusing on heavy industrial areas or residential zones, the Matcher helps you understand where your energy is coming from – and what you need to do to plug the gaps in clean energy supply. If you’re considering investments in onsite generation, battery storage or CPPAs, ENTRNCE’s Matcher can model different scenarios, and show how each investment meets your region’s energy needs.
The 24/7 carbon free energy revolution is coming, and we’re helping local authorities lead the way.

ENTRNCE– What is behaviour change? (holistic, thorough all-encompassing programme, very low payback)
– Why is it important? (£, kWh, CO2, wellbeing – priority 1 towards Net Zero)
– How does it work?
– Where has it worked? (Case studies including council, school)
– What is the potential?

JRP SolutionsLeisure Energy’s presentation will be highlighting issues that leisure providers and local authorities are experiencing with regard to utility consumption and costs. Neil Bland, our MD, will cover the background to the current pricing crisis with ideas on how to reduce usage and carbon emissions to assist in meeting net zero targets. This involves both traditional energy equipment improvements and suggesting longer term solutions to decarbonise facilities which will include replacement technologies such as heat pumps and solar panels. Funding streams and how Leisure Energy are able to assist local authorities together with case study examples will also be discussed.

Leisure EnergyCentrica Business Solutions will be discussing how Net Zero targets can be approached by the public sector. During the session, we will cover some identified challenges and how the public sector can overcome the obstacles to achieve their sustainability targets. We will also touch on the 4 stages methodology that aligns to the highest standard set by industry bodies, as well as the lifecycle support required to achieve a successful plan to net zero within the public sector.
